First 20 Customers for a New Locksmith, Garage Door or Plumbing Business

Last updated: October 6, 2026

If you have just moved to the United States and started a locksmith, garage door or plumbing business, you do not need SEO to get your first customers. You need a legitimate setup, a correct Google profile and a few direct sources of work. This is a plan for the first 20.

1. Check licensing and work authorization first

Plumbing is licensed in most states. Locksmith and garage door rules vary by state, county and city. Check your state licensing board and the SBA guide to licenses and permits. Questions about work authorization and immigration are for an attorney, not for a marketing page.

2. Choose one trade and one area

Do not launch three trades at once. Pick one primary category and a tight service area. Google expects the category to reflect your real core business.

3. Set up the Google profile correctly

Use your real business name. If customers do not visit you, set it up as a service-area business and hide the address. Do not use a virtual office, a rented mailbox or a second profile in another city, because those are the usual causes of suspensions. Read the guides on SEO for a service-area business and suspension recovery.

4. Get the first 10 to 20 jobs without waiting for SEO

  • Introduce yourself to property managers, apartment complexes and real estate agents.
  • Build referral relationships with restoration companies, handymen and contractors.
  • Post helpful answers in local groups, including Israeli and Jewish community groups, and follow each group's rules.
  • Answer every call quickly. Missed calls cost the most in emergency work.
  • Ask every customer for a Google review right after the job.

5. Then add SEO

Once the basics work, build service pages and a review habit. See the trade pages for locksmiths, garage door companies and plumbers. I work in Hebrew or English; see the Hebrew-speaking SEO agency page.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need SEO to get my first customers?

No. Direct referrals, property managers and a correct Google profile bring the first jobs. SEO helps after that.

Can I use my home address on Google?

If customers do not visit you, set the profile up as a service-area business and hide the address. Do not use a virtual office or a rented mailbox.

Where do I check licensing rules?

Your state licensing board and the SBA licenses and permits guide. Rules differ by trade, state, county and city.

Who I Am

I specialize in home services SEO: taking websites that sit invisible on page three and turning them into the business Google and ChatGPT recommend first. I started on the developer side, writing software and doing SEO on the side, until I saw how much home-service owners were overpaying for work that quietly hurt them. So I built a method that fixes the broken technical work and the outdated thinking behind it.

From garage door companies to plumbers, roofers, locksmiths and cleaning services, the playbook is the same: rank where your customers actually search, earn real reviews, and back it with a fast site that books the job. No PBNs, no bought reviews, no directory spam. Only work that survives Google’s next five updates. See exactly how it’s priced on the pricing page.
