I'm Lior. I do SEO for home-service businesses, and I do the work myself. Pick three ideas from this page, do them well, and track the calls. That beats doing seventeen badly.
Primary category "Plumber," secondary categories for what you really do (drainage service, water heater installation), service areas, hours, and real photos. This is the profile that shows in Maps when someone types "plumber near me."
Send a direct review link by text when the job closes. Review count and recency affect where you show in Maps and in Local Services Ads. My page on how to get more Google reviews has the exact texts I recommend.
Short, calm, specific. Future customers read your replies more closely than the complaint.
It sounds basic. It is still the most common leak I find. My checklist for plumbing website design covers the rest of the fixes.
Your site, Google, Yelp, Angi, Facebook, and your truck. Mismatched numbers confuse people and weaken your local listings.
A photo of a finished water heater swap with the neighborhood name. Takes two minutes from the truck.
Separate pages for drain cleaning, water heaters, sewer lines, leak detection, and repiping. Each can rank for its own searches.
Mention the housing stock, common problems (old galvanized pipes, hard water), and jobs you've done there. Copy-paste city pages don't rank.
"Why is my water heater making noise?" "How much does it cost to snake a drain?" Each answer can be a short article that brings search traffic and AI answer citations.
Track them separately so you know if they pay off.
An annual water heater flush or inspection plan turns one-time customers into recurring revenue and a reason to stay in touch.
A seasonal reminder (freeze prep in fall, sump pump check in spring). Short and useful, not a sales blast.
They need a plumber they trust on short notice. One good property manager can be worth dozens of ad clicks.
Be useful, answer questions, don't spam. Recommendations there come from neighbors, which carries weight.
These cost real money per lead, so run them with tracking from day one. I compare them side by side on my page about where plumbing ad money goes.
Pay per lead, show at the top with a Google badge. Published 2026 plumbing benchmarks (Searchlight Digital, Web Tonic) put the average around $57 per lead, often the cheapest paid channel per booked job.
Use them for sewer replacement, repiping, and tankless installs, where the job value justifies clicks that can run well above $100 per lead.
Angi and Thumbtack can help a new company fill the calendar. The leads are shared with other plumbers, so budget for low close rates. If you want to stop renting leads, read about building plumbing leads that come to you directly.
| Your situation | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| New company, few reviews | Ideas 1, 2, 15 | Get found in Maps and get paid leads while reviews build |
| Busy but dependent on Angi or Thumbtack | Ideas 7, 8, 9 | Build pages that rank so you own the calls |
| Spending heavily on Google Ads | Ideas 4, 5, 7 | Fix the site so every paid click converts better |
| Slow season | Ideas 11, 12, 13 | Past customers and partners are the cheapest jobs |
These all promise speed. What they usually deliver is a bill and no way to tell whether it worked.
Use a separate tracking number or form tag for each channel. After 60 days, look at booked jobs per channel, not leads. Cut the bottom one and double down on the top one. That discipline matters more than any single idea on this list. If you want the full plan, that is what my plumbing SEO work is built around.
For most plumbers, a complete Google Business Profile, steady reviews, and service pages that rank. They bring calls without a per-lead fee. Local Services Ads are usually the best paid add-on.
Google Local Services Ads and search ads are the fastest. Pair them with review requests so your Maps visibility grows at the same time.
Google Business Profile posts, review requests, truck wraps with a tracked number, realtor and property manager partnerships, and helpful posts in local groups.
It helps with trust and repeat business, especially before-and-after photos. It rarely beats Google for emergency calls, since people with a leak search rather than scroll.

I specialize in home services SEO: taking websites that sit invisible on page three and turning them into the business Google and ChatGPT recommend first. I started on the developer side, writing software and doing SEO on the side, until I saw how much home-service owners were overpaying for work that quietly hurt them. So I built a method that fixes the broken technical work and the outdated thinking behind it.
From garage door companies to plumbers, roofers, locksmiths and cleaning services, the playbook is the same: rank where your customers actually search, earn real reviews, and back it with a fast site that books the job. No PBNs, no bought reviews, no directory spam. Only work that survives Google’s next five updates. See exactly how it’s priced on the pricing page.
