How to Choose an HVAC SEO Company (and What It Should Cost)

Hiring an HVAC SEO company is hard because the work is mostly invisible and the sales pitches all sound the same. This page gives you the questions that separate real HVAC SEO agencies from resellers, what a fair price looks like in 2026, and the red flags to walk away from. If you want to understand the work itself first, read my guide to SEO for HVAC contractors.

How much does HVAC SEO cost?

Type of providerTypical monthly costWhat you usually get
Cheap "HVAC SEO" plansUnder $500Automated reports, directory submissions, little custom work
FreelancerAhrefs' pricing survey found freelancers average about $1,348/month (all industries)Varies widely by person
HVAC-focused agency$1,000 to $5,000/month, per Built Right Digital's 2026 HVAC SEO pricing guideGBP, service pages, links, reporting
Per-location pricing$1,500 to $2,300/month per physical location, per DAGMAR Marketing as cited by PerceptureMulti-location campaigns
Agency average (all industries)About $3,209/month, per the same Ahrefs surveyAccount manager plus team

My own plans: Starter $750/month, Pro $1,500/month, Custom from $2,500/month. No contract, and I do the work myself.

What drives the price

  • How many towns you want to win. Each town needs a real page and local signals.
  • How strong the top three are. Beating a 20-year-old shop with 900 reviews costs more than beating one with 40.
  • Your starting point. A broken site or suspended profile adds work up front.
  • Content and links per month. Ask for the count in writing.

8 questions to ask any HVAC SEO agency

  1. Who does the work? The person on the sales call, or someone offshore you'll never meet?
  2. What exactly do I get each month? Number of pages, links, profile updates. In writing.
  3. Do you track calls or just rankings? Rankings you can't tie to calls are decoration.
  4. Do you work with my competitors in the same town? Many HVAC agencies do.
  5. Who owns the site, the profile and the content? It should be you.
  6. What's the contract length and exit? Long lock-ins protect the agency, not you.
  7. Can I see a real client I can call? Ask every agency this, including me. A company with happy clients can put you in touch with one.
  8. What will you do in the first 30 days? A real answer is specific: profile category, three service pages, citation cleanup.

What an HVAC SEO company should deliver in the first 90 days

You can't judge SEO by rankings in month one, but you can judge it by the work. Here's what I'd expect from any HVAC SEO agency in the first three months, and what I do myself.

Days 1 to 30: fix what's leaking

  • An audit of your site, Google Business Profile and top competitors, in plain English.
  • Primary and secondary GBP categories corrected, every service listed, service areas set.
  • Call tracking in place, so organic and map calls are counted separately from ads.
  • Technical fixes: indexing errors, slow mobile pages, broken tap-to-call links, missing schema.

Days 31 to 60: build the pages that earn calls

  • Dedicated pages for your highest-value services, usually AC replacement, furnace replacement and heat pumps first.
  • Pages for the two or three towns you most want to win, each with real local detail.
  • A review request process your techs actually use.

Days 61 to 90: authority and seasonality

  • Local links: supplier and dealer pages, sponsorships, local press, chamber listings.
  • Seasonal content published ahead of demand: cooling pages refreshed in spring, heating in early fall.
  • A report that shows the work done, rankings across your service area, and tracked calls.

If an agency can't tell you what happens in each of those windows, it probably doesn't have a plan for your account.

What the monthly report should show you

A good report fits on one page. It shows the work done that month (pages published, links earned, profile changes), your map rankings across a grid of your service area rather than from your office address, tracked calls from organic and Maps, and what's planned next month. If a report is 30 pages of charts and none of them show calls, ask why. I send my clients the work, the rankings grid and the calls, every month. You should be able to read it in five minutes and know whether the money is working.

Red flags

  • Guaranteed #1 rankings or guaranteed timelines.
  • They own your website or Google Business Profile.
  • "Proprietary" link networks, or hundreds of links a month for a few hundred dollars.
  • Monthly reports full of impressions and zero calls.
  • 12-month contracts with no out.

Is there a "best HVAC SEO company"?

Every "best HVAC SEO companies" list online is written by an agency that ranks itself near the top. The best HVAC SEO company for you is the one that answers the eight questions above clearly, costs what your call volume can justify, and lets you leave. Compare its price with what you're paying now for HVAC advertising per call, and with lead sellers on my HVAC lead generation page.

SEO company, or do it yourself?

A small shop can do a lot alone: fix the Google Business Profile, ask every customer for a review, write one honest page per service. Hire help when you want to win more towns than you can write pages for, or when a competitor has clearly pulled ahead. If your site itself is the problem, fix HVAC website design first; SEO on a slow site is money in a leaky bucket.

How I work as an HVAC SEO company of one

I'm founder-led. I'm the person who'll do the work, and you talk to me, not an account manager. I rank clients on Google (organic and Maps) and in AI search, report monthly, and don't make ranking guarantees. Everything I build belongs to you. Frequently asked questions

How much does HVAC SEO cost?

Published HVAC agency ranges run about $1,000 to $5,000 a month (Built Right Digital, 2026), and multi-location campaigns cost more. My plans start at $750/month with no contract.

How do I choose an HVAC SEO company?

Ask who does the work, what you get monthly in writing, whether they track calls, who owns the assets, and whether you can cancel. Avoid ranking guarantees.

How long before HVAC SEO works?

Profile and technical fixes can show up in weeks; service and city pages usually take a few months. Nobody can promise a date.

Is a cheap HVAC SEO package worth it?

Under a few hundred dollars a month you're usually buying reports and directory listings, not the pages and links that move rankings.

Who I Am

I specialize in home services SEO: taking websites that sit invisible on page three and turning them into the business Google and ChatGPT recommend first. I started on the developer side, writing software and doing SEO on the side, until I saw how much home-service owners were overpaying for work that quietly hurt them. So I built a method that fixes the broken technical work and the outdated thinking behind it.

From garage door companies to plumbers, roofers, locksmiths and cleaning services, the playbook is the same: rank where your customers actually search, earn real reviews, and back it with a fast site that books the job. No PBNs, no bought reviews, no directory spam. Only work that survives Google’s next five updates. See exactly how it’s priced on the pricing page.
